B r a k e O p e r a t i n g L e v e r a n d C a m Spindle. Unscrew the retaining n u t and take
off the brake operating lever.
W i t h d r a w the cam spindle from t h e anchor plate.
It
i s unnecessary t o remove the brake shoe fulcrum pin.
I N S P E C T I O N
A N D
R E P L A C E M E N T O F W O R N P A R T S
I
W a s h i n g . A l l parts w i t h the exception of the brake shoes, should be thoroughly
washed w i t h p e t r o l o r paraffin.
A n c h o r Plate. This should be examined for cracks and distortion and excessive
wear i n t h e brake cam housing.
B r a k e D r u m . Clean out the greaseways and remove any rust. Refill the grease-
ways w i t h clean grease.
B a l l Bearings.
Clean and dry the bearings thoroughly.
Compressed air should
I
be used for drying o u t if possible. Test the end fioat and inspect the balls for any
signs of indentation o r pitting.
Change the bearings i f they are n o t up t o t h e
required standard. Pack t h e bearings w i t h grease before replacing i n the hub.
R e t u r n Springs. Inspect for signs of fatigue and renew if necessary.

B r a k e D r u m .
Inspect the brake drum f o r wear, ovality o r scoring.
If there is
ovality o r score marks the drum w i l l have t o be detached from the wheel and

skimmed. If
it
i s necessary t o skim more than ,010'' (0.254 mm.) from the drum,
it
should be scrapped. After skimming the brake drum, the wheel w i l l have t o be
re-built and trued-up.
