Slacken OH both nuts.
A d j u s t e r s . These are located o n the wheel spindle and swinging f o r k end; lugs.
T o TIGHTEN the chain, t u r n the adjuster nuts clockwise an equal number.of t u r n s
until t h e chain tension
is
correct.
T o SLACKEN the chain tension, reverse t h e
procedure and push the wheel forward against t h e adjuster end plates.
W h e e l Securing.
Tighten adjuster locknuts and wheel spindle nuts.

Brake.
Check adjustment.
C H A I N MAINTENANCE
Although both chains are lubricated,
it
is advisable t o remove the rear chain at
intervals and thoroughly clean and re-grease (See below).
C l e a n i n g a n d G r e a s i n g t h e R e a r Chain.
Remove all external d i r t by brushing
vigorously w i t h a w i r e brush. Soak t h e chain i n
a
parafin bath, moving it about u n t i l
the joints are washed clean. Finally rinse i n clean paraffin and leave t o drain and dry.
The chain after drying w i l l then be ready f o r lubricating. Immerse the chain i n
a
bath
or
grease which has been melted over a pan of boiling water. The chain should
remain i n the bath for five t o ten minutes, being moved about freely t o ensure
penetration of the grease i n t o the chain bearings. Allow the grease t o cool t o its
normal state, then take the chain o u t of the bath, wipe off t h e surplus grease and
replace t h e chain o n the machine. W h e n fitting the spring clip fastener o n t h e
connecting link, care must be taken t o ensure correct fitting.
The fastener is
roughly t h e shape of a fish, and, i f it is remembered that a fish swims nose
f i r s t
and
the fastener is fitted so that the nose (closed end)
i s
always proceeding
in
the forward
direction when the machine is running, t h e fitter w i l l have an easy aid t o memory.
It i s
a
good plan t o carry out this cleaning and greasing service a t the beginning o f t h e
winter, half-way through the w i n t e r and
a t
the commencement of t h e summer.
