Communications [56]
No. of Rings [56.1.09]
This option determines the number of rings before the Telecom module answers an
incoming call. The range is 1 to 20 and the default is 10.
Line Fail [56.1.10]
The Telecom module continually monitors the telephone line to which it is connected. Use
this option to select the line monitoring conditions that result in a LINE FAIL event being
reported and recorded in the log. The line monitoring capabilities are:
1=Line Volts
2=Dial Tone
3=Incoming Call
Note: Any combination of the above options may be enabled or disabled at any time.
When one of these conditions is detected, a LINE FAIL message is stored in the event log,
with the exception of line volts which is monitored for a further period determined by the
value programmed in option 51.68. If sufficient line voltage is restored within this period no
event is stored.
If an attempt is made to set the system or part of the system within this period, the message
ALERT - LINE FAIL 1 ENT=CONTINUE SET is displayed. If
continues; if
is pressed a line fail is logged immediately. If the system is unset, the
esc
COMM LINE FAIL message is displayed on the keypad display and a local alarm is
sounded. The keypad buzzers and onboard horn (if connected) are activated. If the system is
set when a line fail condition occurs, the message COMM LINE FAIL is displayed when
the system is unset and is accompanied by a local alarm.
The local alarm is only activated for the first line condition of each unset period. Subsequent
line fails are displayed as COMM LINE FAIL messages on the keypad for the duration of
the condition and are recorded in the event log
Note: The COMM LINE FAIL message is only displayed if Banner Alerts [51.63] is
enabled (off by default). The keypad only shows LINE FAIL COMx when a valid
PIN is entered.
If an alarm occurs during a line fail condition the programmed bell delay for each of the
groups is overridden (refer to Bell Delay [51.02]).
Fail to Communicate [56.1.11]
Use this option to set the length of time the telecom module attempts to gain a connection
before the COMM FAIL message is recorded in the event log.
When an alarm condition or event needs to be transmitted to the monitoring station, the
Telecom module takes over the telephone line and dials the programmed telephone
130
(default Enabled) A line fail occurs if the voltage on the telephone line
falls below three volts, or the line is cut.
(default Disabled) A line fail occurs if the Telecom module cannot
detect a dial tone on the telephone line. The Telecom module records
the line fail, but continues the call attempt even if no dial tone is
detected.
(default Disabled) A line fail occurs if the Telecom module attempts to
transmit an alarm while there is an incoming call.
