8. Disconnect the neutral switch and oil pres-
sure switch leads.

9. Remove the left side crankcase cover bolts
and remove the cover.
10. Remove the two dowels from the crank-
case.
11. Remove the starter motor.
12. Remove the starter idle gear #1 and re-
move the idle gear shaft.

Flywheel

1. Place a piece of rolled rag or a piece of lead
between the primary gears, and remove the
flywheel securing nut.
2. Remove the flywheel. Place the flywheel
magneto puller attachment on the crank-
shaft, and remove the flywheel and starter
idle gear #2 with the flywheel puller.
CAUTION:
The starter clutch assembly can become se-
verely distorted if the flywheel-magneto-puller
bolts are inserted too far.

NOTE:
The starter clutch has three rollers, three springs,
and three spring caps. Use care so that they don't
fall out when removing the flywheel.
