Electric fan and thermostatic switch

1. Electric fan
Operation
The electric fan operation is completely automatic.
It will be switched ON or OFF according to the
coolant temperature in the radiator.
NOTE:
The electric fan is controlled by the thermostatic
switch irrespective of the main switch. Thus, under
certain operating conditions, this fan may not stop
turning for some minutes until the engine tempera-
ture is approximately 91°C (195.8°F) even after the
engine is stopped.
Electric fan inspection
NOTE:
Checking of the electric fan should be made with-
out removing it from the motorcycle.
1. Check the electric fan with a 12 volt battery.
Connect the leads as shown in the illustra-
tion. If the electric fan does not operate, re-
place the electric fan motor assembly. If the
electric fan
operates, check the following
or/and repair as necessary:
a) Smooth operation of the fan motor;
b) Excessive vibration of the fan motor;
c) Cracks in the fan motor bracket;
d) Cracks in fan blades;
e) Loose
motor bracket and radiator mounting

Thermostatic switch inspection
1. Remove the thermostatic switch from the T-
joint
WARNING:
Handle the thermostatic valve very carefully.
Never let it drop or give it a strong shock.
Should it be dropped, it must be replaced.
2. Immerse the thermostatic switch in the wa-
ter as shown. While heating the water,
check the continuity at each temperature. If
the thermostatic switch will not operate as
shown in the table below, the thermostatic
switch is faulty. It should be replaced.
