2. Filling with the coolant.
1) Check the drain bolt gaskets and 0-
ring in the thermostatic valve cover
for damage. If damaged, replace as
necessary.
1. O-ring
2) Install the drain bolts with the gakset
and torque the bolt to specification.
Tightening torque:
Drain bolt — cylinder:
7 Nm (0.7 m-kg, 5.1 ft-lb)
Drain bolt — Water pump cover:
10 Nm (1.0 m-kg, 7.2 ft-lb)
3) Lightly apply grease to the 0-ring,
and install the
cover.
CAUTION:
Check the thermostatic valve and rubber gasket
position before installing the thermostatic valve
cover.

Recommended coolant:
High-quality ethylene glycol anti-freeze
containing anti-corrosion inhibitors
for aluminum engines.
Coolant and soft water mix ratio:
50%/50%
Total amount:
2.3 L (2.0 Imp qt, 2.4 US qt)
valve
Reservoir tank capacity:
0.35 L (0.3 Imp qt, 0.4 US qt)
From LOW to FULL level:
0.25 L (0.2 Imp qt, 0.3 US qt)
CAUTION:
Hard water or salt water is harmful to the engine
parts. You may use boiled water or distilled wa-
ter, if no soft water is available.
4) Remove the sidecovers and fuel
tank.
5) Remove the air breather bolt from the
T-joint as shown.
6) Pour the recommended coolant, and
soft water into the radiator until the
radiator is full.
7) Reinstall the air breather bolt, radia-
tor cap, sidecovers, and fuel tank.
8) Run the engine several minutes to
recheck the coolant level in the radia-
tor. If it is low, add more coolant until
it reaches the top of the radiator.
9) Fill the reservoir tank with coolant up
to the "FULL" level.
