Thermo-unit

1. Thermo-unit
Thermo-unit changes its resistance in a way that at
higher temperatures, it has less resistance and
thus passes more current. When more current
flows to the coil in the engine temperature gauge,
the armature to which the needle is attached is
attracted by the increased magnetic field. In this
way, the needle indicates the temperature.
Inspection
1. Remove the thermo-unit from the T-joint.

2. Immerse the thermo-unit in the water as
shown. While heating the water and check
the resistance at each temperature as tabu-
lated. If the resistance measured is out of
specification, the thermo-unit is faulty. It
should be replaced.
WARNING:
Handle the thermo-unit with special care. Never
let it drop or give it a strong shock. Should it be
dropped, it must be replaced.

Troubleshooting

Electric fan
NOTE:
If the electric fan will not turn at coolant tempera-
tures of 91°C (195.8°F) to 101°C (213.8°F):
1. Check the wire connections. Repair if nec-
essary.
2. Disconnect the electric fan connector, and
connect the battery (12V) to the electric fan
connector as shown.
