Tightening torque:
110 Nm (11 m-kg, 80 ft -lb)
5. Install the ring gear assembly without the
thrust washer. Adjust the gear lash (refer to
"GEAR
ADJUSTMENT").
6. Place four pieces of Plastigage
the originally fitted thrust washer and the ring
gear.
7. Install the gear case onto the ring gear as-
sembly, and tighten the nuts and bolts with
the specified torque.
Tightening torque:
Bolt/Nut: 23 Nm (2.3 m-kg, 16.6 ft-lb)
NOTE:
Do not turn the drive pinion/ring gear when measur-
ing clearance with Plastigage®.
8. Remove the ring gear assembly and deter-
mine the clearance by measuring the width
of the flattened Plastigage®.
LASH
CHECK
between
Ring gear thrust clearance:
0.1 ~ 0.2mm (0.004 ~ 0.008 in)
9. If the clearance exceeds the specified value,
replace the thrust washer to obtain the

proper clearance.

DRIVE SHAFT

Removal

1. Remove
WHEEL" in this chapter.
2. Remove the final gear case assembly.
3. Remove the drive shaft. See "SWING-ARM"
in this chapter.

Inspection

1. Drive shaft
Inspect the shaft splines for wear and/or
damage. If wear is excessive, replace the
drive shaft.
NOTE:
When installing the drive shaft, lubricate the splines
with molybdenum disulfide grease.
