Removal

1. Remove the rear wheel, sidecovers, starter
relay and rubber plugs.
2. Remove the final gear assembly and the
drive shaft from the swingarm.
3. Remove the cotter pin from the swing-arm,
drive out the shock absorber pivot shaft, and
disconnect the shock absorber from the
swingarm.
4. Remove the swingarm pivot bolt, and re-
move the swingarm.

Inspection and lubrication

1. Remove the bearing caps. Inspect the bear-
ings for pitting or other damage. Make sure
that the bearings roll freely. If a bearing is
damaged, it should be replaced.
NOTE:
When installing new bearings, grease them liberally
with lithium-base, waterproof wheel-bearing grease.
2. If the inner seals of the bearing caps are
damaged, replace the bearing caps.
3. Examine the rubber boot for damage. Re-
place it if it's damaged.
4. Check the needle bearing and oil seal in the
rear arm for damage or wear. Replace as
required.
