ADJUSTING THE VALVE CLEARANCE

ADJUSTING THE VALVE CLEARANCE
The following procedure applies to all of the
valves.
NOTE:
S Valve clearance adjustment should be made
on a cold engine, at room temperature.
S When the valve clearance is to be measured or
adjusted, the piston must be at top dead center
(TDC) on the compression stroke.
1. Remove:
S rider seat
S fuel tank
Refer
to
"RIDER
SEATS" and "FUEL TANK".
S air induction box
S carburetor assembly
Refer to "CARBURETOR" in CHAPTER 6.
S cylinder head stay
S under cowling
2. Drain:
S coolant
Refer to "CHANGING THE COOLANT".
3. Disconnect:
S spark plug leads
S coolant hose 1
4. Remove:
S chrome cylinder head covers 2
5. Remove:
S spark plugs
S cylinder head cover 1
6. Measure:
S valve clearance
Out of specification ! Adjust.
Valve clearance (cold):
Intake valve:
0.11 X 0.15 mm
Exhaust valve:
0.16 X 0.20 mm
