RECOIL STARTER ASSEMBLY
4. Remove:
• Spiral spring
WARNING
Be careful so that the spiral spring does not
pop out when removing it. Remove it by it
out one turn of the winding each time.
CHECKING THE RECOIL STARTER
ASSEMBLY
1. Check:
• Return spring
Damage
2. Check:
• Drive pawl
Cracks/wear/damage
3. Check:
• Sheave drum
Cracks/wear/damage
4. Check:
• Bushing
Cracks/wear/damage
5. Check:
• Spiral spring
Broken/bent/damage
6. Check:
• Rope roller
• Bushing
Broken/bent/damage
7. Check:
• Starter rope
Frays/wear/damage
NOTE:
• When replacing the rope, cut it to the
specified length and then burn it end so it
will not unravel.
• Apply water resistant grease onto the new
starter rope.
Starter rope length:
2,300 mm (90.6 in)
8. Check:
• Start-in-gear protection parts
Cracks/wear/damage
