SELECTION THE PINION GEAR SHIMS
NOTE:
Find the pinion gear shim thickness (T3) by
selecting shims until the specified measu-
rement (M) is obtained with the special tool.
1. Measure:
• Specified measurement (M)
Measuring steps:
(1)Install the pinoin height gauge, drive
shaft and bearing (with bearing race).
Pinion height gauge:
90890-06702..........................
NOTE:
• Attach the pinion height gauge to the drive
shaft so that the shaft is at the center of the
hold.
• After the wing nuts contact the fixing plate,
tighten them another 1/4 of a turn.
(2)Install the pinion and pinion gear nut.
Pinion nut gear:
95 Nm (9.5m•kg, 68 ft•Ib)
(3)Measure the specified measurement
(M) using the digital caliper.
Digital caliper:
90890-06704
NOTE:
• Measure the clearance between the pinion
height gauge and the pinion, as shown.
• Perform the same measurement at three
points on the pinion.
• Find the average of the measurements (M).
