Handling a leaking
NVRAM III battery

The hazardous components of the NVRAM III battery are lead, sulphuric acid,
fiberglass, and polystyrene.
To handle a leaking NVRAM III battery, complete the following steps.
Caution
Perform this procedure after you remove the battery from the chassis.

Neutralize the leaking substance with bicarbonate (baking soda),
sodium carbon (soda ash), or calcium oxide (lime).

Flush the neutralized substance with water into the sewage system.
WARNING
WARNING
Do not flush or pour the unneutralized substance into the sewage
system.

If the unneutralized

Has made contact with your skin
and the contact area is large, or if
blisters form
Has made contact with your eye
Is ingested
Then...
Flush the affected area with
water and see a physician.
Call a physician immediately
and flush your eye with water
until the physician arrives.
Call a physician. If the patient is
still conscious, also flush the
patient's mouth with water and
have the patient drink milk or
sodium bicarbonate solution.
