Mantel Requirements

Use the table below to determine the maximum mantel depth allowed. The mantel depth
(measured from the face of the fireplace) must fall in the shaded portion of the table.
•
Any facing material that protrudes more than 3/4" from the face of the fireplace is considered a
mantel and must meet the mantel requirements.

Examples: • If you wish to have an 8" deep mantel, it must be at least 8" above the fireplace face (44-3/4" above the base).
• If you wish to have a mantel 6" above the fireplace face, it must be no deeper than 6".

Combustible mantel columns (legs) that
protrude more than 3/4" from the glass
frame must meet the sidewall clearance (1").
If they protrude 3/4" or less, they may be
placed directly to the side (but not in front) of
the fireplace.
Non-combustible mantel columns do not
have a minimum clearance.
