4.8 CHECKING WELD QUALITY

Peel Test
To perform destructive weld testing: Make a weld on two test pieces and tear them apart using a
Vise & Vise-Grip pliers. Note the strenth of the weld. It is important to test the same materials that you
would normally use for repair in a weld destructive testing procedure. Expect to tear a weld nugget as
the two metals are peeled apart.
IMPORTANT: Use the same metal as you are welding.
