• Face Detection AF and AE may not work if the subject is wearing
sunglasses, has part of their face covered or is not looking toward
the camera.
• If the camera cannot detect the subject's face, the camera focuses
using the setting currently selected in [Focusing Area].
• However, the Smile Capture function may not work and an image may
not be captured, even when turned on, depending on the condition
of the recognized faces, such as the faces are too small. If this
happens, press the shutter release button to take a picture.
• In e (Pet) mode, the Face Detection mode is switched to pet
detection (only one pet).

To Switch the Face Detection Function
By default, the Face Detection function is set to Face Detection On.
You can switch to the Smile Capture function, which automatically
releases the shutter when your subject smiles. The Face Detection
function is switched as follows each time the I button is pressed:
Smile Capture
Capture
Face Detection Off
An icon indicating either Face Detection or Smile Capture appears
on the display. (The Face Detection Off icon only appears right after
the Face Detection function is switched to off.)
