remote alarm indication
An RAI is a code sent upstream in a network as a notification that a failure
condition has been declared downstream. Also known as AIS or Yellow
Alarm.
robbed bit signaling
RBI is a signaling technique used in T1 which steals the least significant bit
of a channel every few frames to use as a signaling bit.
remote defect indication
An RDI is an alarm sent to the transmitting node by the receiving node to
indicate an incoming failure at the receiving node. This error is caused by
faulty local hardware, a faulty transmit connection or cable, or a faulty
remote receiver.
request to send
RTS is a V.24 control signal on a standard EIA/TIA-232-C connector. RTS
places the modem in the originate mode so that it can begin to send.

symmetric digital subscriber line
SDSL is a DSL technology that allows symmetric speeds of up to E1/T1
over a single twisted pair.

SEEP is the memory used to store and report product identity and other
long-lasting information about hardware assembly.

threshold crossing alert
TCA profiles are used by the system to combine several statistics counters.
When a user-defined threshold for any one of the statistics in the profile has
been exceeded, an alarm is generated. Several statistics counters can
therefore be monitored using a single profile.
