NOTE:
Hot-swapping a fan can interrupt system operation. If you are hot-swapping a fan
assembly in response to an error message, and the system is operating normally, hot-swapping
the fan in less than 30 seconds eliminates the requirement for a system reboot. Hot-swapping
the fan in less than two minutes enables continued operation and prevents automatic shutdown.
Installing a Rear Panel Hot-Swappable Fan
You do not need to remove the server from the rack to replace a fan. To remove a hot-swappable
fan from the rear of the server chassis, follow these steps:
1.
Orient the replacement fan assembly so that the curved handle is at the bottom. Gently push
the fan unit into position.
2.
Tighten the two captive screws that secure the fan unit to the server chassis.

Removing and Replacing Airflow Guides
The server contains airflow guides that direct air from the front cooling fans across processor
and memory circuits, and into the PCI-X card cage. The guides maintain cooling efficiency within
the server. You must remove the airflow guides to access processor and memory circuits.
