System Boot
Does not boot from the expected boot device:
Reason
Operating system not on the system drive.
IDE hard disk drive is connected to IDE
controller.
Incorrect BIOS setting for boot drive (non-
RAID system).
System with internal SCSI disks attempts to
boot from CD-ROM drive instead of a SCSI
disk drive.
Series of beeps and error messages display:
Message
Refresh Failure
Parity Error
Base 64 KB Memory Error
Timer Not Operational
Processor Error
8042 - Gate A20 Failure
Processor Exception Interrupt
Solution
Install the operating system as described in
Chapter 7.
BIOS cannot boot from a SCSI hard disk
drive if IDE hard disk drive is connected.
Disconnect all IDE hard disk drives. For
more information, see the System Reference.
BIOS Multiboot/Hard Drive option must be
set to SCSI ID 0. See Chapter 5.
Do not boot the system with a bootable CD-
ROM disc (such as the Windows NT
software CD-ROM) in the CD-ROM drive.
You may want to change the system's boot
device order in the BIOS to boot from a
SCSI disk drive before booting from the
ATAPI CD-ROM drive. See Chapter 5.
Explanation and Solution
Bad memory refresh circuitry on the system

error persists, replace the DIMM(s).
Parity error in the first 64 KB block of
memory. Remove and reinstall DIMM(s).
If error persists, replace DIMM(s).
Memory failure in the first 64 KB. Remove
and reinstall the DIMM(s). If error persists,
replace the DIMM(s).
Memory failure in the first 64 KB, or Timer
