PPPoA Routed Mode (RFC2364)

If your service provider uses PPPoA (Point-to-Point Protocol over ATM) for its
transport protocol, you will need to set up the SMC70032AE in PPPoA mode as
well to communicate with your provider's network. The "PPPoA Routed" option
under "CONFIG" allows you to set the modem up for communicating on two
separate networks, one being your service provider's network and the other
being your internal network.
Setting the modem in "PPPoA Routed" mode is similar to configuring other
routing modes on the SMC70032AE. You will need to assign an internal Ethernet
port IP address, which will act as the gateway for the internal network, and then
define the subnet mask.
The internal DHCP server function will be automatically enabled once you check
the Enable NAT option. Domain Name System information, which allows domain
names like

the internal network using the modem as a DNS server for the internal network
by checking the "Enable primary DNS Relay" option. This option is
recommended if you have chosen "Enable NAT" in order for the modem's
address to be set as the DNS server IP address.
An example of LAN port settings is listed below.
LAN port:
LAN IP: 192.168.1.1 (Also set as the gateway for the internal network)
Subnet mask: ff:ff:ff:00 (Hexadecimal form of 255.255.255.0)
Check the Enable NAT on the interface option to enable the DHCP server
function
Check the "Enable primary DNS Relay" option to allow DNS (Domain
Name System) information to be passed to computers on the internal
network
The information for the ADSL port must also be entered below the LAN IP and
Subnet mask in order to pass information to the Internet. Your service provider
will give you the VPI (Virtual Path Identifier) and VCI (Virtual Channel Identifier)
settings as well as the Encapsulation Method. The VPI range is from 0 to 4095
and the VCI range is from 1 to 65535.
Because PPPoA assigns the IP information automatically, there is no need to
enable DHCP client for the ADSL port or manually enter the IP information.
However, you will need to know whether your service provider uses
authentication and, if so, whether this authentication is done using PAP or CHAP.
Once you have identified the method used by your service provider, click on the
matching option, either No authentication, PAP, or CHAP. If using PAP or CHAP,
you will also need to enter the User ID and password provided by your service
provider.
The one other setting you will need to enter is the LLC header mode (Data
Encapsulation method). Because your service provider governs this setting, they
will need to indicate to you which setting to configure.

Routed" mode using the DHCP server function for the internal network and an
