Step 2: Plug in the Ethernet cable
If you are connecting to a networking device, connect a straight-through
Ethernet cable to the SMC70032AE "LAN" Ethernet port. If connecting directly to
your PC, the cable must be a crossover Ethernet cable.
Step 3: Connect the console link
If an initial setup other than the default configuration is required, you will need
to use the serial cable to connect the PC's RS-232C port (a DB9 Male port usually
assigned to COM1 or COM2) to the "CONSOLE" port on the back of the
SMC70032AE modem (a DB9 Female port). Setting up the modem requires a
terminal emulation program such as HyperTerminal to access the command line
interface program of the modem. You may also use the Graphical User Interface
included on the SMC70032AE CD.
Step 4: Plug in the power supply
Plug the power cord into the wall and then connect it to the power adapter unit.
With the adapter now powered, you will need to connect the 6-pin DIN
connector from the power adapter to the corresponding "POWER" port on the
SMC70032AE.

Confirming Status

You can confirm the connection status of the SMC70032AE ADSL Mode through
the following methods:
Confirm the ADSL Line connection status
After the SMC70032AE ADSL has been connected, the modem and your
ADSL service will sync. The ADSL Sync LED should blink for several
seconds before turning solid green, indicating that the ADSL line has
synchronized with the DSLAM and you are in "Link" status.
Confirm the PC connection status
If the Network Interface Card on the PC and the SMC70032AE are
properly connected the LINK LED on the SMC70032AE will be green. If it
is not on, there is no connection between the modem and the NIC.
Confirm the Telephone connection status
To confirm that the telephone connection works correctly you should hear
a dial tone and have no high-frequency interference when you pick up the
phone.
Please note: If the PWR/ALARM LED shows RED, the ADSL modem does
not have a LINK or the Ethernet cable connecting to the PC is not properly
connected.
