If any segments in the pattern are missing from the test lines,
you need to clean the print heads and print the nozzle
check pattern again. Proceed to step 5.
If the check pattern prints correctly, you do not need to clean
the print heads. Click Cancel, and see "Printing quality"
on page 8-26 if a problem exists.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to clean the print heads.
While the printer performs the cleaning cycle, the Pause
light flashes.

After finishing the cleaning, click Print nozzle check pattern
in the Head Cleaning dialog box, or print a few lines from a
document to confirm that the heads are clean and to reset
the cleaning cycle.
6. If print quality hasn't improved after repeating steps 4 and
5 up to five times, try other recommendations listed in
"Printing quality" on page 8-26. If print quality still has not
improved, contact your dealer.
For Macintosh Users:
1. When cleaning the black print head, make sure the Ink
Out Black light is off. When cleaning the color print head,
make sure the color Ink Out lights are off. If the
corresponding light for the print head you want to clean is
on or flashing, see "Replacing an Ink Cartridge" on page
7-2.
2. Choose Utility from the Print dialog box as described in
Chapter 4.
3. Click the Head Cleaning button.

Troubleshooting
Caution:
Never turn off the printer while the Pause light is flashing.
Doing so may damage the printer.
