You are printing on oversized
paper, and the paper may be
obstructed by the output tray.
Paper may be jammed in the
paper path.
Single sheets do not feed properly from the manual feed slot.
Cause
Paper is curled or folded.
The paper may be too thick
or too thin to be fed.
Continuous paper may be left
in the paper path.
The paper-release lever is set
to the wrong position.
The single sheets are not
loaded deeply enough.

Troubleshooting
Raise the output tray by extending the
legs under both sides of the tray to
keep enough clearance between the
output tray and paper support.
See "Loading oversized paper in the
sheet feeder" on page 5-3.
Turn off the printer and open the
printer cover using the notch on the
cover; then gently pull out the paper
by turning the knob toward you.
Remove any remaining pieces of
paper. See "Clearing a paper jam" on
page 8-24.
What to do
Use flat, non-damaged paper.
See "paper" on page D-4.
Remove the continuous paper.
Make sure that the paper-release lever
is set to the single-sheet position. See
page 3-2 (Windows) or 4-2 (Macintosh).
Load single sheets into the manual
feed slot until they meet resistance.
