Defines the printer device type reported to the host in the Sense
Type and Model device reply. The following emulations apply:
2770 emulates InfoPrint 70; 4028 emulates IBM InfoPrint 4028;
4317 emulates IBM network printer 17, 24; 4322 emulates IPM
IPDS
Infoprint 21,32. The 3812/3816 device type characteristics can be
Emulation
simulated by selecting 4317 and setting the resolution parameter
to 240 dpi.
The setting of this parameter will affect the font substitution
performed by an AS400.
Defines the supported font and image resolution reported to the
host. The setting of this parameter has no effect if the emulation
is 4028 or 4317. For 4322 or 2770, this value should always be
set to Auto for support of 600 dpi or less. Select a specific dpi
IPDS
value to force use of that dpi value for the available resources or
Resolution
for legacy applications that are limited to the defined dpi value. If
the printed output with Auto has resulted in resolution errors or
incorrect image sizes, especially with IM1 images, the selection
of a specific dpi value may correct the problem.
This parameter defines the printable page area and clipping
criteria. For the selection to function correctly, the Border X and Y
settings must be appropriate for the target printer. Definition of
each parameter is as follows:
Border: The printable area reported to the host includes the no-
print border, relating to the printer's physical capabilities. Clipping
will occur on any of the four page edges. If the image exceeds the
printable area, a VPA exception is reported to the host
Move: The printable area reported to the host includes the no-
print border, relating to the printer's physical capabilities. Moves
the page inside the printable area if the logical page is originally
outside the border. Data may be clipped on any four page edges.
If the image exceeds the printable area, a VPA exception is
Valid
reported to the host.
Printable
Edge: The printable area reported to the host corresponds to the
Area
entire physical sheet. This setting is known as edge-to-edge
printing, and the border is zero. No VPA exception is reported to
the host.
Fit: When the page is actually printed, it is compressed in both
the horizontal and vertical directions to fit within defined margins.
No VPA exception is reported to the host.
Move Alternate: Special option, similar to Move, used to adjust
any mismatch between logical paper size and physical paper
size. An example is a non-rotated overlay used in combination
with rotated text that in some applications may result in a
mismatch. The option is intended only for emulation of a IBM
Network Printer 24 with unique characteristics and is not
recommended for normal applications.
