To set up FICON CUP if fmsmode is already enabled:
Verify that FICON Management Server mode is enabled by issuing the ficoncupshow fmsmode
1.
command.
NOTE:
If fmsmode is already enabled, disabling it might be disruptive to operation because ports that
were previously prevented from communicating will now be able to do so.
2.
If FICON Management Server mode is enabled, disable it by issuing the ficoncupset fmsmode
disable command.
3.
Install a CUP license key as described in
4.
Issue the ficoncupset fmsmode enable command.

Displaying the fmsmode setting

The ficoncupshow fmsmode command displays the effective fmsmode setting for the switch:
switch:admin> ficoncupshow fmsmode
fmsmode for the switch: Enabled

Setting the MIHPTO value

The missing interrupt handler process timeout (MIHPTO) is a configurable value that the CUP reports to the
channel. This value determines when the channel will timeout waiting for an expected response from the
CUP. If processing times are increased, it is possible to inadvertently timeout the channel because the CUP
is busier than normal.
The ficonCupSet MIHPTO command can be used to increase, decrease, or display the MIHPTO value
that the CUP is currently using. The changing of the MIHPTO is an offline procedure as there is no a way to
change it and notify the channel of the change. The channel will ask what the MIHPTO is set to during the
time where it is bringing that link to the CUP online.
The MIHPTO setting will persist across reboots, POR, and failovers. Setting this value to the upper end of
the time range will allow the CUP to process more requests, such as at peak usage times, without timing
out the channels. It is recommended that the value should be set to 180 seconds in a SAN with B- and
M-Series switches. The default value is 15 seconds.
1.
Log in to the switch as admin.
2.
Disable the switch.
3.
Issue the ficonCupSet MIHPTO command and set the value between 15 and 600.
Example: setting the MIHPTO value
switch:admin> ficoncupsetMIHPTO 447
The input value of the MIHPTO will be rounded down to
the nearest value divisible by 10. This is due to
IBM's MIHPTO specification.
MIHPTO has been changed to 440 seconds
"FICON CUP license
considerations" on page 436.
