Sort Media: used to sort the media in a library.
Insert Media: used to load media into the library from a mail slot.
Remove Media: used to remove media that is to be removed from a mail slot.
Import Media
Each piece of media has two elements; the media object record which is its unique identity within
the Data Protector Express catalog and the data objects associated with it. Data Protector Express
cannot do any processing with the data objects, if the media object record has been deleted from the
catalog, is corrupted or missing. The Import Media job creates a record for the media object in the
catalog and associates the data objects on the media with that record. You must run this job if you are
restoring data that was backed up on a server on a different domain or if you are restoring data on
a media that has been deleted from the catalog. The media must be in Data Protector Express format
for this job to run successfully.
When you create the job, you can specify which slots should contain the imported media and any
password and encryption details.
NOTE:
If the media has been encrypted or password protected, you will only be able to use (import) it if you can
provide the proper encryption passphrase or password respectively.
NOTE:
This type of import job does will not move media from a mail slot to a slot inside the library. There is a
separate insert/remove media wizard for these procedures.

Sort Media

This job physically sorts media in the library by either barcode or media name. It requires at least one
empty slot in the library so that it can move the tape cartridges.

Insert Media

This job is used to load media from a mail slot. Data Protector Express will read any barcode or MIC
(memory in cartridge) information so that it can match the media to a record in its catalog and make it
available for other jobs. If you use the tape library front panel to load media into the mail slot, Data
Protector Express must first carry out a light inventory to be able to identify the media.

Remove Media

This job is used to remove media so that it can be ejected from a mail slot and is no longer available for
other jobs. If you use the tape library front panel to eject media, the Data Protector Express catalog will
not know the media is no longer available and will display an error message if a job tries to use it.

Reserving Slots

In some cases, you may have media in a tape library that you do not wish Data Protector Express to use.
To achieve this, media can be marked as reserved. The reserved state can be set by the user on any
storage slot. To access it, right click on a slot, choose Element Status and set it to Reserved.
