recognition—The TextBridge Pro process during which a
scanned or on-line TIFF page image is analyzed, and characters
and words are derived from the image and saved as a text data
stream in memory or in an on-line temporary file. Sometimes
referred to as optical character recognition (OCR). Note that
TextBridge Pro not only performs OCR, but also performs page
segmentation, page orientation (rotation), format analysis,
recognition of text styles (bold, italic), and conversion to a variety
of popular text formats.
recognition language pack—A system dictionary for a
particular language that TextBridge Pro uses to recognize
documents printed in this language. Depending on where you
purchased the product, TextBridge Pro can recognize up to 11
different languages. At setup time, you can direct which
languages are to be installed on your system and made available
to TextBridge Pro for recognition purposes.
resolution—The degree of detail, measured in dots per inch
(dpi), with which a scanner or fax machine can receive an image.
TextBridge Pro can perform OCR (optical character recognition)
on page images of any resolution within the range 72 – 900 dpi.
For best results combining efficient operation with recognition
accuracy, pages images of 300 or 400 dpi are best. However,
TextBridge Pro performs remarkably well on fax resolution
images (200x100, 200x200). For scanning purposes, you can
define resolution in the main window or the Scanner menu. Not
all scanners support the full range of resolutions. In addition,
TextBridge Pro may display only a subset of the resolutions
supported by your scanner in the Resolution submenu.
RTF (Rich Text Format)—A document interchange markup
language developed by Microsoft Corporation for the
representation of data in an ASCII-only format that enables the
exchange of documents across a wide variety of platforms.
