G–2
auto-segmentation—In TextBridge Pro, a capability to discern
the layout of the page image, and to recognize and output text
regions in the correct order. For example, in a newsletter, where
columns are of uneven depths and widths, TextBridge can discern
the layout of the page and recognize and output text in the correct
sequence. In TextBridge Pro preferences, you can specify auto-
segmentation by selecting Automatic as the input layout.
B
binary—In the context of a page image, refers to a black and
white, as opposed to color or grayscale, image.
Brightness—See scanner brightness.
C
Chooser extension—A file located in the Extensions folder of
the System Folder, which controls a device such as a printer or
scanner. To make a device available to an application, you must
first choose it in the Chooser.
CCITT—The acronym for Consultative Committee for
International Telegraph and Telephone, a standards organization
that develops various standards for data transmission and
storage. CCITT has developed, among other things, compression
standards for data storage, namely CCITT Group 3 and Group 4
standards.
In relation to TextBridge Pro, these compression standards apply
to TIFF image data. Compression is important for TIFF page
image files which, uncompressed, can be 500,000 bytes or larger
in size. Group 3 and Group 4 use different compression
algorithms, with Group 4 generally yielding tighter compression
on image files. TextBridge Pro can open not only uncompressed
TIFF files, but also TIFF files with CCITT-3 and CCITT-4
compression applied to them.
