10-4 CPU BACKUP BATTERY

Tech Talk from Icom

Why
is a lithium battery usually used for memory
backup?
Because
the self-discharge of the lithium battery is
very low compared
to other batteries.
This means
the
battery
voltage
or capacity
decreases
only
a
little even
if the battery
is left for several
years
without connection.
;
An interesting technical point is the life expectancy
of the lithium
battery
on the LOGIC
unit.
Our
lithium battery, BR2032-1T2, is rated at a 180 mAh
capacity.
Icom
has made
calculations
for the battery
life in
the worst case situation such as when the battery

The CPU
in the 1C-765 includes an externally connected
RAM
ІС chip for storing
memory
channel
information.
The information
is retained
by a lithium
backup battery.
When
the
backup
battery
is exhausted,
the
transceiver
transmits and receives normally but the transceiver cannot
retain memory
information.
if the transceiver
becomes
dusty or dirty, wipe it clean
with a dry, soft cloth.
Avoid the use of strong cleaning
agents such as benzine or alcohol as they may damage the
surfaces of the transceiver.
current is 3 uA.
Therefore, the battery life is:
180 mAh = 3 uA
6000 hours (= 2500 days)
approx. 6 years
Battery life
Actually,
typical current value is less than 0.5 uA
when the battery is connected to the LOGIC circuit
in the ІС-765 under normal conditions.
180 mAh + 0.5 uA
360000 hours (= 15000 days)
approx. 41 years
Battery life
When
the
transceiver
is turned
ON,
the lithium
battery
is deactivated.
Therefore,
the more
you
operate
your
1C-765,
the longer the
life of the
lithium
battery will be.
In a way, the 1C-765 gets
stronger the more you operate it.

how to adjust the transmit bandwidth

To adjust the transmit bandwidth on the Icom IC-765, you can select between LSB and USB modes depending on the frequency band:

- USB is automatically selected on bands above 10 MHz.
- LSB is automatically selected on bands below 7 MHz.
- Push the [SSB] button again to switch between USB and LSB.

The SSB selectivity (bandwidth) is fixed at 2.2 kHz at –6 dB. There is no direct control to manually change the transmit bandwidth beyond selecting USB or LSB.
