7.12 Using the apex locator

Orange region
Corresponds to the apical region. The tip of the root canal file has
reached the apical region, and has passed the mid-apical region (two
green arrows, see below).
Tip: If a 3-color scale (blue, green, red) for the distance display is
preferred, it is possible to display the orange region as green. To do
this, change the setting under "Settings"/„Apex Locator Settings". If the
4-color scale is deselected, displaying the "Doctor's Choice" symbol in
orange is also omitted.
The last level of the apical region (A) before the "Over" level
A
corresponds to the apical foramen.
Red region
Corresponds to reaching the "Over" level. The tip of the root canal file
has reached the apex. Over instrumentation is indicated.
Two green arrowheads
The two green arrowheads indicate the mid-apical region.
Doctor's Choice
Set your preferred endodontic workflow by setting the working length
("Doctor's Choice"), see more under "Setting working length and
function when it is reached  [→ 58]".
The working length ("Doctor's Choice") has an effect on the "Signal
tones  [→ 61]".

Setting working length and function when it is reached

If the sound is not switched off, see "Changing the volume  [→ 61]",
apex signal tones will sound in addition to the graphic distance display.
The intervals between the beeps vary according to the measured
distance to the set working length.
Set working length
ü The "Settings/Apex Locator Settings/Doctor's Choice" dialog is
displayed.
➢ Use the "up" or "down" arrow keys to set the desired working
length. Please note that the distance values are not a metric length
measurement!
