Trouble
Battery life is short.
Cracked cells.
Compound on top of battery
melts.
Electrolyte runs out of vent
plugs.
Excessive corrosion inside
c o ntainer.
Battery e l e ctrolyte freezes.
Leaking battery cell.
Battery polarity reversed.

Cause
BATTERY
O v e r c h a rge due to level of
e l e ctrolyte being below top of
plates.
Sulfation due to disuse.
Impurities in electrolyte.
Low charging rate.
Hold-down bracket loose.
Frozen battery
Charging rate too high.
Too much water added to battery
and charging rate too high.
Spillage from over filling.
Vent lines leaking or clogged.
Charging rate too high.
Discharged battery.
Water added and battery not
charged immediately.
Frozen e l e ctrolyte.
Battery connected backwards
on airplane or charger.

Remedy
Maintain proper electrolyte level.
Install new battery.
Install new battery.
Check regulator input voltage
from alternator and output
v o l tage to battery.
Install new battery. T i g h t e n
hold-down bracket.
Install new battery.
Reduce charging rate. Check
regulator voltage output.
Drain and keep at proper level.
Check regulator voltage output.
Use care when adding water.
Repair or clean.
Adjust voltage regulator.
Replace battery.
When temperatures are at, or
below freezing, always recharg e
battery for 1/2 hour following
addition of water.
Replace battery.
Completely discharge battery
Charge correctly and test.
