Event Counting
In event counting mode, the counter counts the number of edges the counter clock
signal generates. It can be configured as rising edge active or falling edge active, as
shown in Figure 3.32 and Figure 3.33, respectively.
Counting may be temporarily paused by the counter gate signal as shown in Figure
3.34.

Instant (Software-Timed) Event Counting
With instant event counting, the software controls the rate and time of reading
counter value, which is thus also called software-timed event counting. Whenever the
software sends a read command, the current value of the counter is returned as
shown in Figure 3.35.
