6 Troubleshooting

Problem
Marked drop in
pressure.
The baseline has a
large amount of
noise.
The baseline is drift-
ing.
The pressure in the
system markedly
increases.
930 Compact IC Flex Oven/ChS (2.930.2200)
Cause
Leak in the system.
The eluent path has a leak.
High-pressure pump – Con-
taminated pump valves.
The eluent path is blocked.
Contaminations in the elu-
ent
High-pressure pump –
Defective piston seals.
The pulsation absorber is
not connected or is defec-
tive.
Thermal equilibrium is not
yet attained.
Leak in the system.
The organic solvent in the
eluent is evaporating.
The inline filter
(6.2821.120) is blocked.
The MSM is blocked.
Remedy
Check the capillary connections and seal leaks,
if necessary (see Chapter 3.2, page 13).
Check the eluent path and fix the leak.
If necessary, tighten the pressure screws using
a wrench (6.2739.000).
Clean the pump valves (see Chapter 5.7, page
56).
Check the eluent path and eliminate the block-
age.
Check the quality of the chemicals and the
water.
Replace the piston seals (see Chapter 5.7,
page 56).
Connect (see Chapter 3.9, page 25) or replace
the pulsation absorber.
Condition the instrument with the column
oven switched on (see Chapter 3.19, page
47).
Check all capillary connections and seal leaks,
if necessary (see Chapter 3.2, page 13).
Check the eluent bottle cap (see Chapter

Constantly stir the eluent.

Replace the filter (6.2821.130) .
Regenerate the MSM (see Chapter

5.11.3.2, page 74).
