Problem
Marked drop in
pressure.
The baseline has a
large amount of
noise.
The baseline is drift-
ing.

Cause
Leak in the system.
The eluent path has a leak.
High-pressure pump –
Contaminated pump
valves.
The eluent path is blocked.
Contaminations in the elu-
ent
High-pressure pump –
Defective piston seals.

is depleted.
The pulsation absorber is
not connected or is defec-
tive.
MCS – The vacuum pump is
defective.
Thermal equilibrium is not
yet attained.
Leak in the system.
The organic solvent in the
eluent is evaporating.
Remedy
Check the capillary connections and seal leaks,
if necessary (see chapter 4.2, page 15).
Check the eluent path and fix the leak.
If necessary, tighten the pressure screws using
a wrench (6.2739.000).
Clean the pump valves (see chapter 6.7, page
66).
Check the eluent path and eliminate the block-
age.
Check the quality of the chemicals and the
water.
Replace the piston seals (see chapter 6.7, page
66).
Replace the CO
adsorber cartridge CW (see
2
chapter 6.13.1, page 93).
Connect (see chapter 4.9, page 27) or replace
the pulsation absorber.
Contact Metrohm Service.
Condition the instrument with the column
oven switched on (see chapter 4.21, page 57).
Check all capillary connections and seal leaks,
if necessary (see chapter 4.2, page 15).
Check the eluent bottle cap (see chapter
■
4.6, page 22).
Constantly stir the eluent.
