Section 3: Location and Standards

Location

When installing the PWRcell Inverter, consider the follow-
ing:
The inverter installation location must meet the
working space requirements in NEC Article 110.26.
The unit can be installed in indoor or outdoor loca-
tions.
If installing indoors, an external switch must be
installed to be the PV rapid shutdown initiator, or
additional DC disconnects must be sourced and
installed on the PV circuits. See
Rapid Shutdown
If installing outdoors, mount the unit near the utility
service entrance to allow the inverter DC discon-
nects to be the compliant PV rapid shutdown initia-
tors. See
Photovoltaic Rapid Shutdown
more information.
If using the inverter DC disconnects as the compli-
ant PV rapid shutdown initiator(s), verify the height
of the DC disconnects in the inverter do not exceed
6' 7" (2 m) to comply with NEC Article 404.8(A).
Ensure proper labeling of PV equipment and add
placards where necessary to indicate location of
PV disconnects.
If possible, avoid mounting locations where the
inverter may be subject to direct sunlight or where
liquids may be prone to drip/collect.

Standards

DANGER
Loss of life. Property damage. Installation must
always comply with applicable codes, standards, laws
and regulations. Failure to do so will result in death
or serious injury.
WARNING
Electrocution. Refer to local codes and standards for
safety equipment required when working with a live
electrical system. Failure to use required safety
equipment could result in death or serious injury.
WARNING
Equipment damage. Only qualified service personnel may
install, operate, and maintain this equipment. Failure to
follow proper installation requirements could result in death,
serious injury, and equipment or property damage.

Immunity

Immunity testing was conducted in accordance with:
IEEE C62.41.2:2002, IEEE C62.45:2002, and IEEE
C37.90.2:2004 per IEEE 1547.1:2018, and IEEE
1547.1:2020.
for
Surge withstand capability, as per IEEE C62.41.2:2002
COR 2012 and IEEE C62.45:2002, was shown to meet
the following levels when applied to the AC Mains and
Ethernet terminals:
* 1.2x50µsec Combination: ±6kV
* 200A 100kHz Ringwave: ±6kV
* EFT: ±3kV
Note on DC Wiring and the NEC
Some electricians or installers may be unfamiliar with DC
wiring in a residential setting. Note the following:
NEC 690.31 for DC PV circuits in buildings
NEC 215.12(C)(2) for correct DC wiring identifica-
tion
Always adhere to applicable codes when marking and
installing DC conductors. See
ing Coloring
Convention. Mark or flag all conductors for
their polarity as appropriate.
