Check the messages that appear on the printer's
screen, and then press Cleaning.
When the message is not displayed, press in the
order of
(menu) - Maintenance - Cleaning
the Maintenance Parts - Sensor Cover.

Check the message, and then press Start.
The platen moves to the maintenance position.

Press How To... to view the procedure.
Follow the on-screen instructions to perform
the procedure.
Note:
The red and green lights that are visible inside the
clear part are LED lights. They cannot damage
your eyes.
If the ink stains cannot be removed completely,
instead of water use the ink cleaner provided
with the maintenance kit to clean again.

After you finish cleaning both sensor covers,
press Done on the control panel screen.

Check the on-screen messages, and then press
OK.
The platen moves to its normal position.

The Sensor Cover cannot be recognized. is

If this message appears immediately after you finish
cleaning, then cleaning was insufficient. Do the
cleaning again.
Clean around the print head
and the edges of the metal
If the printing surface and other areas are dirty even
after performing Head Cleaning several times, fibers,
such as lint, may have accumulated around the print
head and edges of the metal. Follow the steps below to
clean them.

Precautions When Cleaning
Important:
Failure to observe the following points may cause a
malfunction to occur.
❏ Do not move the print head or the platen
manually.
❏ Do not touch the nozzle surfaces (the
part in the illustration) with the cleaning stick.
❏ Before starting this procedure, be sure to read the
following:
"Cautions when operating" on page 78
❏ If it is difficult to remove dirt around the print
head, rinse the dirty cleaning stick with ink
cleaner and then clean it again. If the cleaning
stick is dirty at this time, replace it with a new
one.
Note:
The buzzer sounds 10 minutes after the print head is
moved (default setting).
Check the message on the screen, press OK, and then
continue working. After 10 more minutes have passed,
the buzzer sounds again.
