If the pump is used in areas where the danger of ex-
plosion exists, make sure it is suitable for area clas-
sification and the characteristics of the flammable
substances present in the plant.
The essential safety requisites against the risk of ex-
plosion in classified areas are dictated by the 94/9/CE
European directive dated 23 March 1994 (regarding
apparatus) and the 1999/92/CE directive dated 16
December 1999 (regarding plants). The classification
criteria of areas where the risk of explosion exists are
dictated by the EN 60079-10 and EN 1127-1 norms.
4.2. AREAS WHERE GAS, VAPOUR OR FLAMMA-
BLE CLOUDS ARE PRESENT
According to technical and legal dispositions, the fol-
lowing factors must be taken into consideration
when selecting the type of pump to be used:
- Group classification: mines (group I), surface sy-
stems (group II);
- Area classification: 0, 1, 2 (for which apparatuses
of categories 1, 2, 3 respectively are suitable);
- Characteristic of the flammable substances present
