Daily Inspections (Dynamic)

When performing inspections with equipment in a fully operable condition ensure all personnel/
objects are at the recommended O.E.M (Original Equipment Manufacturer) safe working distance
from the operating area of the machine. Conduct all inspections on flat, dry ground where the
equipment and all attachments are correctly supported. Failure to comply may result in property
damage, serious injury or death.
Carry out the following functional checks (with covers removed from the grapple):
1. Jaw Stops: with jaws fully open lift the grapple high enough, so both jaws are able
to open and close completely. Slowly close the jaws until stopped by the jaw stops.
Check to ensure all of the jaw stops contact evenly.
2. Jaw Open/Close: check motion of jaws when opening and closing. Jaws should
move freely, with no binding or hesitation.
3. Head Tilting: Slowly extend the tool cylinder until the grapple is halted by the stop
plate assembly on the bottom of the stick. The grapple should move freely, with no
binding or hesitation. Check to ensure the stop face is fully in contact with the stick.
4. Head Rotation: rotate lower assembly through 3 to 5 full rotations clockwise and
counterclockwise. Motion should be smooth, with no binding or hesitation.
5. Outrigger / Accessory: Raise and lower the hydraulic outrigger (if equipped). Motion
should be smooth, with no binding or hesitation. Check for signs of wear on bushings
and pins.
6. Replace all covers before using the grapple.
If the attachment is not functioning correctly, have it checked and/or repaired by a qualified
service technician before attempting to use the attachment. Failure to comply may result in
property damage, serious injury or death.
Jaw stops and stops must be inspected and maintained. Do not operate the grapple if any stops
are damaged or missing. Failure to do so could result in severe damage to the jaw cylinders, jaw
assemblies, tool cylinder, stick and grapple.

Yearly Inspection

Attachments must be inspected annually to ensure safe operating condition. Use NDT
for welds and structure. Visually inspect all other components.
