Storage
Use the following information when placing a working grapple into storage or when
storing new inventory prior to going into service. Correct storage techniques will
extend the service life of the grapple and protect the safety of operating personnel.
1. Fully open grapple jaws.
2. Place grapple on stable and level surface.
3. Remove dirt, excess oil and grease that may hide cracks, leaks, loose bolts or other
problems.
4. Perform inspection of structural integrity of the grapple: the tool cylinder and
anchor, the boom and stick systems and components. Inspect all welds and
components for cracks or damage.
5. Repair any damage found during inspection. Review product manual welding
recommendations and procedures before repairing any welds, or contact WBM
with any questions.
6. Inspect hydraulic components for leakage or damage: hoses, hose ends, fittings,
valves and cylinders.
7. Repair or replace any damaged components.
8. Ensure hydraulic system is filled with oil. Cap or plug any hoses or fittings.
The grapple hydraulic system must be full of oil before being placed in storage. All hoses and
orifices must be capped or plugged. Failure to do so could result in contamination of the hydraulic
system and result in damage to the grapple and the machine.
9. Apply thread lock (as recommended) to any loose fasteners and torque to
specification.
10. Lubricate grapple in accordance with lubrication section. Rotate turret to evenly
spread grease in bearing race.
11. Apply protective coating to any exposed cylinder rods, pins etc. to prevent rusting.

After Storage

12. Inspect grapple for damage, loose or missing parts, or leaks.
13. If the grapple has been in storage for three months or more, lubricate grapple in
accordance with lubrication section before putting back in service.
14. Rotate turret to evenly spread grease in bearing race.
