If the lowest stops fail, the additional jaw stops protect the cylinders from damage. When stops wear or fail, have them replaced immediately.

NOTICE Installer must identify the pressure port of the supply valve prior to connection to the grapple’s main control valve. Failure to do so may result in severe internal damage to the valve. Connect a flow/ pressure meter to auxiliary valve.

Most grapples are equipped with a valve in the turret. A minimum two valves is required; one for rotation, and one for opening and closing the jaws. The number of extra valves depends on the number of outriggers, one valve per outrigger.

Each load should be well-balanced. “Heeling” logs can cause damage to the grapple. Do not bulldoze logs into place. Do not use the grapple to push or pull the loader.

    • Check contact faces and welds on the jaw stops, the stop plate assembly and the stick. • Inspect all welds and components for cracks or damage. Contact WBM for recommended welding procedures before repairing any welds. • Hydraulic components (hoses, hose ends, fittings, valves, motors, swivel, cylinders, etc.) and connections for leakage or damage.

    XPC500 / XPC600 GRAPPLE PARTS, SERVICE AND INSTALLATION MAINTENANCE ROTATION BEARING LUBRICATION Lubrication Procedure (Rotation Bearing) Regular lubrication of the rotating bearing is necessary to ensure long life and proper performance. The rotating bearing must be greased after the grapple is installed on the machine. If used daily, lubricate the rotation bearing daily.

    MAINTENANCE OUTSIDE GEAR FACE LUBRICATION Lubrication Procedure (Outside Gear Face) For lubrication of the slewing bearing gear teeth, WBM recommends Swepco 604, or equivalent only. Swepco 604, can be ordered through Weldco-Beales as part number 601-015-0000. Every week, inspect the gear teeth and lubricate. The frequency of lubrication will vary with the usage of the grapple and the working environment.
