6.1.4 Taking Patient Measurements

To protect against wet plaster and for soft tissue com­
pression, apply 2 layers of body protection stockinette.
Measure the width of the pelvis below the trochanter
from the dorsal direction.
Possible positions for marks are the proximal socket
brim, the course of the femur and the trochanter major
as well as the circumference measurement at intervals
of 5 cm.
Measure the tuberosity-sub-trochanter distance.
The lateral calliper arm faces in the walking direction
while the medial calliper arm bends in the joint.
Ensure that the anterior part of the arm is positioned flat
on the tuberosity.
Measure the distance from the medial ischium branch
to below the trochanter with the callipers from the
dorsal direction ("bony" medio-lateral residual limb
dimensions).
Read the angle.
Measure the diagonal distance.
The medial calliper arm has to be flat on the tuberosity /
ramus.
