Chapter 5: Verifying the Switch

Powering On the Switch

The procedure in this section explains how to power on the switch. Before
powering on the device, review the information in "Power Specifications"
on page 93.
Warning
Power cord is used as a disconnection device. To de-energize
equipment, disconnect the power cord.  E3
Note
Pluggable Equipment. The socket outlet shall be installed near the
equipment and shall be easily accessible.  E5
Once powered on, the switch takes approximately two minutes to initialize
its operating software. It does not forward network traffic until after it has
completed the initialization process. You can monitor the initialization
process by connecting a terminal or computer that has a terminal emulator
program to the Console port. (The Console port settings are provided in
"Starting a Local Management Session" on page 73.)
To power on the switch, perform the following procedure:
1. Install the power cord retaining clip on the AC power connector on the
rear panel of the switch, as shown in Figure 33.

2. Connect the AC power cord to the AC power connector on the rear
panel. Refer to Figure 34 on page 71.
