Check the prerequisites
To use the Startup Profile, you need the following:
a computer with a USB port
Microsoft Excel Version X or greater
the Nortel Networks BCM50 Startup Profile template (Microsoft Excel spreadsheet)
a portable USB storage device compatible with USB 1.1 (formatted for FAT32)

Customize a Startup Profile for your system

To customize a Startup Profile for your system:

On a computer that has a USB port and Microsoft Excel, navigate to the directory where the
Startup Profile template resides.
If you do not have the Startup Profile template on your computer, you can get a copy from the
BCM50 Documentation CD, the Nortel Networks Support website
(www.nortelnetworks.com), or the BCM50 Main Unit hard drive.

Open the Startup Profile template.
This is a Microsoft Excel spreasheet.

Enter the information into the spreadsheet that you want loaded into the BCM50.
The Startup Profile template contains explanations of the various parameters that you need to
configure. Simply move your mouse over the parameter name to view the explanation.

Insert the USB storage device into the USB port of the computer.

Save the Startup Profile as a tab delimited text file onto the USB storage device.
The filename for the Startup Profile consists of the BCM50 system ID followed by the .sps
(Startup Profile script) extension.

Exit from Microsoft Excel.

Verify that the Startup Profile (with the .sps extension) was correctly saved on the USB
storage device by opening it with MS Word or Wordpad.

Remove the USB storage device from the USB port on the computer.
Use the Startup Profile to set the basic parameters
