Cabling-Do's and Don'ts

General Guidelines

Select the cable length based on the fabric configuration.
Dress the cables to provide strain relief.
There are no port dependencies; use ports to meet cabling requirements.
The minimum bend radius is 4" (10 cm).
Cable arms cannot be used.
Do not over-tighten tie-wraps if used to secure cables.
Velcro straps are recommended
For the Vantage 8500
Divide cables for each fabric board into two groups and route half from each side of the
chassis.
Cable management brackets can be mounted to chassis or to rails or not used

Connecting 10GbE Cables

To connect the GbE cables:
1. Route the cable to the nearest cabling guide bracket hanger position (optional step).
2. Position the 10GbE cable connector opposite a connector on an sLB, pull the locking tab
toward you, and push the connector in place.

Do not kink the cable.
Do not over-bend the cable behind the connector.
Do not twist the connector.
If it is necessary to re-orient the connector, start the adjustment further down the
cable, at least 75 cm away from the connector, so the twist occurs gradually
along the cable instead of abruptly near the connector.
