Final Checks, Operation and Troubleshooting
7.1

Required Checks Before Initial Operation

Once the Vantage 8500 chassis is secure within the rack and prior to powering-up the switch, per-
form the following checks:
1. Ensure that all site power and grounding requirements have been met before connecting the chassis to
a power source.
2. Verify that you have the correct number of power supply modules (sPSU-S) installed.
3. Verify that all boards, power supplies, and fan tray modules are properly inserted and secured
in their place.
7.2

Powering-up the Switch

After completing the required checks, electrical cables can be connected to the switch from the
power distribution source.
To power-up the Vantage 8500 switch:
Connect the power supply cords to the AC connectors of the sPSU-s units located at the rear of the
chassis.
All LED indicators of the sFB-8500 and sLB-1024 boards light up together briefly and then turn
off. This is a normal initialization stage sequence. Once the initialization is completed, the link
LED indicators on the sFB-8500 and sLB-1024 boards enter a state representing the actual link
status of their corresponding ports.
If there are not enough sPSU-s modules installed, the system will not power-up, or in some cases,
only part of the system will power-up while other parts will remain unpowered.

Verifying Proper Switch Operation

Verifying installation of the Vantage 8500 consists of making sure that it starts up properly and that
the network connections are operational.
To verify that the switch has started properly:
1. Observe the power supply LEDs on the fan module front panel to verify that the power supplies are
working.
2. Listen and check for airflow to make sure the fan assembly is operating.
3. Check the LED indicators to verify that the system is running and operational.
