7. Operate the software in one of two modes, Simulation Mode or Control Mode. The current
operating mode of the software displays at the bottom of the opening screen.
Note:
You can use Simulation Mode independent of the hardware unit (for example, for
training purposes), and it does not require a physical connection to the hardware. Once the
tablet is connected to the hardware, and the hardware is powered-on, the software
switches to Control Mode when you tap Initialization on the software's main screen.

4.2 Device functions

Although the Otto SPEcialist PPM is capable of executing sophisticated and complex methods,
its basic usage derives from sequences composed of the following functions:
• Closing the pressure manifold to the Fully Closed position (downward-most or lowest
position).
• Opening the manifold to one of the following positions:
• Fully Open (upper-most or highest position)
• Current Consumable Height (the manifold is set to approximately one inch higher than the
height of the current consumable stack)
• Pausing the unit for a period of time, allowing you to perform a bench process (such as
placing a protocol liquid into the consumables being processed).
• Setting the pressure of the internal regulator to a non-zero value, which causes system gas to
flow from the lower ports of the pressure manifold. If the manifold is in the Fully Closed
