6. Check that the Power LED on the spectrometer is On.
The Laser LED and the Active LED should be off. If the Power LED is not on, please turn
the instrument off at the PSU and check all of the connections, any power socket
switches and then switch the PSU on again.
7. Switch on the microscope.
8. If you have a motorized microscope stage, switch on the stage controller box.
9. Start the Spectrum software.
On the Windows start menu select Programs/PerkinElmer Applications/Spectrum.
When you start the software the instrument will prepare for use by turning on the laser and
cooling the detector to its operating temperature (usually -50 °C).

SOP-2: Turning the Raman System Off

NOTE: We recommend that you leave the spectrometer module switched on when possible.
1. Shut down Spectrum software by selecting Exit from the File menu to return to the
Windows operating environment.
2. Switch off the PC and monitor.
3. If required, switch off the instrument by pressing the power switches on the PSUs to
OFF:

SOP-3: Setting the Limits of the Motorized Stage

You may need to adjust the height of the stage, for example, when you want to measure
thicker samples. You should adjust the stage height using the longest objective mounted in
the nosepiece.
After moving the stage, you will need to reset the limits in the software.
CAUTION
1. Remove the objective nosepiece from the microscope.
2. Place your sample on the stage.
3. Using the joystick, move the stage to the highest position.
4. Using an allen key, loosen the hexagonal fixing screw on the side of the microscope
(Figure 24).
