Basic Installation Procedures
DC Earthing
To connect the DC earth:
1. The equipment earthing lug (DC earth lug) on the DC end of
the Freedom XC is used to connect the chassis of the
Freedom XC to your system's DC negative connection or
earthing bus point as required by electrical regulations.
2. Use copper wire that is either bare or provided with green
insulation. Do not use the DC earth lug for your AC earthing.
See the AC wiring instructions in this section.
3. Follow the guidelines below that correspond to the specific
type of installation. These guidelines assume you are using
the DC supply cable and fuse sizes recommended in this
guide. If you are using different sizes, refer to the applicable
installation code for DC earthing details.
4. See Figure 1 for the location of the DC earth lug. Make sure
to tighten the bolt on the DC earth lug to a torque of 2.6 N-m
of force. Apply an anti-corrosion compound to the copper
wire prior to connecting to the DC earth lug.
Recreational Vehicle
Use minimum-sized, stranded copper wire and connect it between
the Chassis Earth lug and the vehicle's DC earthing point (usually
the vehicle chassis or a dedicated DC earth bus). See regulatory
references below.
Marine
Use stranded, copper wire that is bare or has insulation rated
minimum 105 °C, and connect it between the Chassis Earth lug
and the boat's DC earthing bus or engine negative bus. Use a wire
2
of gauge 53.5mm
minimum. See regulatory references below.
38
For DC voltage systems under 50 VZ in an RV installation, an 8.36mm
Regulatory
copper bonding conductor would be acceptable for the inverter/charger enclosure
references
earth bonding only. The "house" battery system must, however, be earth bonded.
And for DC voltage systems under 50 VZ in a marine installation, a DC
Earthing conductor shall not be smaller than one size under that required for
current carrying conductors supplying the device .
