GEARCASE SERVICE
Change Gearcase Oil
See Figure 41.
Gearcase does not require regular service, however, if
gearcase lubricant is low, drain and refill. Fill with 384 ml
(13 oz) synthetic polyglycol 460 oil (Ariens p/n 04966600)
only.
1.
Remove gearcase. See Remove Gearcase Assembly
on page 19.
2.
Remove gearcase drain / fill plug and drain gearcase.
Wait until all fluid has drained from gearcase.
3.
Fill gearcase with 384 ml (13 oz) synthetic polyglycol
460 (see Service Parts on page 37) and reinstall
drain / fill plug.
4.
Reinstall gearcase. See Install Gearcase Assembly on
page 19.

U-JOINT ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT
Remove U-Joint Assembly
NOTICE: Save all hardware for reinstallation.
1.
Turn engine switch to OFF position and wait for all
moving parts to stop and for hot parts to cool.
2.
Disconnect spark plug wire from engine.
3.
Remove brush. See Separate Brush From Frame on
page 7.
4.
Remove hardware retaining attachment pulley to
U-joint assembly and remove pulley. See Figure 42.

Remove hardware retaining brush shield to
attachment frame and remove shield. See Figure 43.
