18.3

Removing Cam Followers and Cam Gear

Remove rocker arms (9) and pushrods (8), @ 18.2.
N
Remove outer blower housing, @ 17.4.
N
Remove the blower wheel, @ 17.5.
N
Remove the locking screw 4282 890 2700.
N
Take out the screws (1).
N
Grip cooling fins of cover (2) with flat nose pliers and
N
pull cover away.
If necessary: Use hook 5910 890 2800 as additional
N
aid to remove the cover (2). Leverage points:
Disassembly aids (arrows) on cover (2).
If the cover (2) cannot be removed with the inner
N
blower housing in place: Remove inner blower
housing, @ 17.6, and pry off the cover (2). Leverage
points: Disassembly aids (arrows) on cover (2).
Pull out the pin (6).
N
Take out the cam followers (3 and 4).
N
Pull out the pin (5).
N
Remove the cam gear (7).
N
Clean sealing faces on cylinder and cover (2).
N

Checking Decompression System

Remove the cover (2), @ 18.3.

Check lever (arrow) of decompression system to
N
make sure the following points apply:

Lever (arrow) must project about 2 mm from cam of
cam gear (7).
Push lever (arrow) clockwise. The lever (arrow) must
move freely and disappear completely.
Release the lever (arrow). Lever (arrow) must spring
back to its original position.
If the lever (arrow) is stiff, worn or not visible: Install
new cam gear (7), @ 18.3.

Installing Cam Followers and Cam Gear

Lubricate all parts with two-stroke engine oil before
installation.
Fit the cam gear (7) so that the arrows on it line up
with the lugs (arrows) in the cylinder.
Fit the pin (5).
Rotate the crankshaft so that the tip of the cam on the
cam gear (7) faces down.
Fit the pin (6).
Fit the cam follower (4).
Fit the cam follower (3).
Install rocker arms (9) and pushrods (8), @ 18.6.

Installing Rocker Arms and Pushrods

Lubricate all parts with two-stroke engine oil before
installation.
Rotate the crankshaft so that the tip of the cam on the
cam gear (7) faces down.
Fit the pushrods (8) so that their ends are seated in
the cam followers (3 and 4).
Fit the rocker arms (9) on the collar studs so that they
are seated on the pushrods (8).
Fit the sleeves (10).
Fit locknuts (11) on the collar studs.
Check that the ends of the pushrods (8) are seated in
the cam followers (3 and 4).
